Courtney Lee wore No. 5 on his Houston Rockets jersey the last two seasons, but the newly acquired Celtics guard could not wear that number with Boston, since it belongs to Kevin Garnett. Lee's previous number with the New Jersey Nets, No. 6, was unavailable, too, as it belongs to a certain bejeweled center from Celtics lore. Lee therefore chose to wear No. 11 and tweeted his decision Wednesday. The number is in honor of Danny Rumph, a former starting point guard for Lee's alma mater, Western Kentucky, who died in 2005. Check out Lee's announcement regarding his jersey number...

NBA Recap: Celtics Sign and Trade for Courtney Lee

The Celtics offseason of reloading is continuing, and every passing day, the C’s look like serious contenders to knock off the Heat. They almost did it with a busted up, old and injured roster last season. With the addition of Lee and all the other players they have added, the Celtics look like NBA odds favorites for next season. Even though the Heat will still be the favorites...

Your Morning Dump… Doc Rivers is pretty damn happy

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. “I don’t want to say too much, but I couldn’t be happier with where we’re at,” Rivers said. He still insists he knew this would all work out. “I was very confident,” Rivers said. “I mean, Danny...

More Details of Dooling Signing

Chris Forsberg of ESPN Boston, who is one of the best out there for Celtics news, has more details on the Dooling signing. The Celtics owned Dooling's rights, but will re-sign him at a one-year, minimum deal. Dooling, who will earn $1.35 million (of which the Celtics are responsible for only $854,389) is taking a pay cut (he made $2.2 million last season), but clearly enjoyed...

State of the Celtics

Now that the dust has settled on Danny's roster moves and signings, it's time to take a look at the state of the Celtics, where the roster stands and where they stand in regard to the salary cap and payroll. First, salary cap is set at $58,044,000 this season. The tax threshold is $70,307,000 and the Celtics must stay within $4 million of that threshold in order to use...

Celtics expect Bradley to miss start of season

The Boston Celtics are not expecting guard Avery Bradley to be ready when the season opens. The Celtics believe that Bradley, who has had surgeries on both his shoulders during the off-season, may not be ready until at least December, according to Comcast SportsNet New England. "We know there's a possibility that Avery won't be able to play the first month of the...

Pietrus’ agent: He is not a veteran minimum player

The Celtics roster is almost set.  With 13 players (if you count Jeff Green) officially under contract, the Celtics are really only expected to add one more player so they can keep their options open during the season.  And even if they decided to carry the full 15 into the season, that’s still only two more open spots to fill. So the question now is, how will those be filled...

Celtics add another big to the bullpen

Boston will have none of your small-ball, stretch-4 offense. The Celtics are as old school as it gets in the current NBA. I am not just talking about Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. This is a team that will beat you with defense and pound the ball inside. The power forward is just another post player who happens to be able to hit jumpers. They are not hitting any 3-pointers. The Celtics...

Jeff Green Finalizing Four-Year Deal With Celtics

It was a mere formality after the Minnesota Timberwolves signed Greg Steimsma to an offer sheet (reportedly one-year, $3 million) Saturday, but the Boston Celtics have officially rescinded their qualifying offer to the restricted free agent so that Stiemsma can sign with the Timberwolves as an unrestricted free agent.
