If you’re waiting for the Celtics to pull the trigger on a big deal, you might be waiting a while. Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said during an interview with CSNNE that he doesn’t foresee making any major changes to the C’s, who have suddenly won six in a row and are looking more and more like the contenders most fans expected them to be. “That doesn’t make a lot of sense to radically change the team when you’re trying to compete to win it all,” Ainge said. “We have been and will continue to look to upgrade our team, but I think it’s always more unlikely that that happens than likely.” The Celtics have been linked to a number of big men — most notably, Sacramento’s DeMarcus Cousins — throughout the early part of this season, but perhaps Ainge has seen enough during the current hot streak to convince him that Boston can still compete despite it’s subpar rebounding. The Celtics’ depth has been on display of late, so maybe Ainge feels that such depth is more valuable than going ahead and changing things up, even if he’s not ready to rule anything out completely. “You have to produce,” Ainge said. “It’s my job to look at the bigger picture. We have to live in the moment and try to win and help our team have success, but at the same time, if it’s not happening on the court, then there has to be changes made, absolutely.” Right now, it is happening on the court. We’ll see if things change — and thus Ainge’s opinion changes — between now and the Feb. 21 trade deadline.
