Doc Rivers has three years left on his current contract with the Boston Celtics, but following the team’s first-round ouster in the 2013 NBA playoffs, it appears he’s uncertain about his future. When asked if he would be back in Boston for the 2013-14 season Rivers said, “I don’t know.” That’s not a good sign for the Celtics, who continue to get older and need the force of Rivers’ personality to help lure players to town. Rivers continued: “I mean, I don’t know that right now. I can’t make that decision now. I’m under contract, and we’ll see. I mean, honestly, I just can’t even think about that right now, so I don’t know.” He later added that he isn’t leaning towards not returning, he just needs time to decompress from the current season evaluate things. Still, the fact that he didn’t give a definitive “yes” when asked if he’s returning should concern Celtics fans. On Tuesday, the Boston Globe reported that Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge was shocked that anyone was questioning whether or not Rivers would be back. Ainge said, “from all I know, Doc will be back.” It sounds like Ainge and Rivers need to sit down and have a talk about his future. If forced to guess, I’d say Rivers will be back, but the Celtics really need to make a real effort to get younger. It was painfully obvious this season that the team was old and slow and needed some serious young help. *Originally posted on Rumors and Rants The post Doc Rivers returning to the Boston Celtics? appeared first on Midwest Sports Fans.
