In addition to considering all of the options in front of him, analyzing mountains of data, and searching for the ever ellusive Contra Code version of the Celtics starting line up, head coach Brad Stevens is looking outside of basketball practices to give his team an edge. One such strategy is something Jordan's Furniture commercials have been telling us about for years: the key to success is getting enough sleep. Stevens has been working with Cheri Mah of the Stanford Sleep Disorders Clinic and Research Laboratory since his days with the Butler Bulldogs. Initially, Stevens was looking for a way to get his players much needed rest in the thick of tournament play. The question was how to get the team rested enough to play at an optimal level despite playing three games in three days while traveling 4200 miles from home. The suggested course of action boiled down to a mathematical approach of practicing at certain times on certain days and taking others off all together. I...

Celtics earn first preseason win

Brad Stevens will celebrate his first NBA coaching victory when it counts. Stevens was content to focus on the improvement the Boston Celtics made from one night to the next in a 111-81 preseason victory over the New York Knicks on Saturday night. Boston was winless in its first three exhibition games under Stevens, who was hired away from Butler to take over the storied franchise...

Boston Celtic fans worst fears realized? Fright Night part 2

A recent Yahoo story from Justin Haskins says that Celtics.com reporter Mark D'Amico has reliable information that Brad Stevens has everyone, including the bigs, practicing the three point shot in practice: Brad Stevens has been running three-point shooting drills in recent practices -- with the entire team shooting from beyond the arc. That's right, every player on the...

Celtics Preseason Game 4: Celtics win first preseason game by 30 (111-81)

Brad Stevens has officially won his first game in the NBA. After the Celtics dropped their first three games of the exhibition season. The Celtics led this thing from start to finish. The Celtics jumped out on the Knicks on a 20-4 run in the first quarter behind 4-4 shooting from behind the three-point line. I think the final score of 111-81 indicates the energy level from Saturday...

Recap: C’s put on Klynyk in New Hampshire

Before tonight’s game with the Knicks, coach Brad Stevens said it would be important for Boston to get off to a fast start. Well the Celtics did just that, burying all four of their three-pointers in the first 6 minutes to open-up an 18-4 lead. Ball movement was crisp, guys were moving and things looked good. Knicks got themselves back into the ballgame in the 2nd, mostly due to...

Stevens wants Bass to anchor the defense

Brandon Bass has been many things over his eight years in the league. He's been a second round pick, a bench player, a starter, the guy who replaced Big Baby and a guy who can drain a mid-range jumper like nobody's business. Two words that never went together when describing Bass were defense and anchor. Coach Brad Stevens is looking to change that, from Jay King at MassLive...

Celtics coach Brad Stevens understands the importance of a good night’s sleep, he swears

The Boston Celtics went from high-end championship hopefuls to all-out NBA rebuilders in a span of a few weeks last summer jettisoning Paul Pierce Kevin Garnett and coach Doc Rivers in an attempt to clear payroll and start over. The process will be helmed by rookie head coach Brad Stevens a bright and intelligent coach that has absolutely no experience on the pro level. Stevens...

Brad Stevens wants Avery Bradley to change the way he plays defense?

Avery "Game Changer" Bradley has made his name with the way that he plays defense. His aggressive, all-out effort style is almost his trademark, and has earned him praise around the league. LeBron JAmes once called him one of the best defenders in the league. His style does have it's downsides though, Bradley has struggled with injuries in his short career, and has...

Your Morning Dump… Where Jared Sullinger is rebounding progressively

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.  Rebounding is instinct, according to Jared Sullinger. That must be true, because Brad Stevens has been watching the Celtics forward’s instinct at work for a long time. “I remember the first time I saw him...

Sullinger rebounds on pure instinct

That must be true because Brad Stevens has been watching the Celtics forward’s instinct at work for a long time. “I remember the first time I saw him play and it was in a high school open gym” said Stevens who was a Butler assistant coach at the time. “I called Thad (head coach Matta) on the way home and said I can...

Comments from the Other Side - Knicks Preseason 10/13

Well, it was nice to get a win, and a big win at that.  But, we can't ignore the fact that NY sat pretty much their whole first string.  But, a win is a win, and the Celtics needed a win.  I'm surprised at how much they don't like Olynyk already but I think they dislike Bargnani just as much.    Fun game and fun comments.  Enjoy.... Ha, New Hampshire. I always...
