Randolph quickly became a fan favorite after a few good games towards the end of the regular season. That said, keeping Randolph wouldn't have made much sense. He would've been owed $1.1 million on a bad team with plenty of young bigs and plenty of salary. Related: Welcome to the keep Shavlik crusade It's August 1st, do you know where your Shavlik is?

  • It might make sense to let Randolph go from a purely cost basis. However, they have to put some type of product on the court that fans want to see. As the article said, Randolph was a fan favorite. The Celtics can't just run any five guys onto the court with "Celtics" on the back of their jersey and expect fans to watch.
