Despite a report from the Celtics during their game last night with the Hawks that Greg Stiemsma was only sitting for rest, the shot-blocking specialist explained that his bothersome feet acted up during the first half.

Doc Rivers sat Stiemsma in the second half due to the center’s foot pain, not just to give him a 24-minute breather.

“Greg’s foot was bothering him, so we pulled him,” Rivers said.

“It’s just been a lot of games, a lot of minutes and not a lot of days off so it all kind of adds up,” Stiemsma said. “But I’ll be all right.”

With plantar fasciitis in his left foot and a bone bruise in the other, Stiemsma has the kind of injuries that can only heal with time and rest – neither of which Stiemsma or the Celtics have a lot of right now.

I wouldn’t be too worried about this injury. Stiemsma probably could have played if the Celtics cared even a little about winning the game. He’s been playing through foot pain for months now and doing just fine. But with the Celtics’ front court thinner than the hairs on my chinny-chin-chin, we’ll keep an eye on Stiemsma’s feet.
