Mickael Pietrus had fallen to the floor and he had been taken off the court on a stretcher, and Celtics nation was collectively holding its breath while awaiting word on Pietrus’ status, when the Frenchman spoke on the phone with his agent’s assistant. First things first, Pietrus decided, and opened the conversation with one question:

What happened at the end of the 76ers game?

The answer certainly did nothing to improve Pietrus’ mood, but it appears the Celtics have dodged a bullet. Early signs indicate that Pietrus avoided serious head injury during his fall against the Philadelphia 76ers, and he still hopes to be able to return to the court this season. Pietrus’ agent said it looks like Pietrus suffered a concussion. (ESPN Boston)

Pietrus was not admitted to the hospital, but spent the night in the area. He will fly home Saturday afternoon to Boston, where he will be re-evaluated by the Celtics’ medical staff.

McCandless said he was informed the X-ray and CT scans administered Friday night revealed no abnormalities. Although Pietrus will undergo more tests and is still waiting for conclusive results from an MRI, there’s optimism that he will indeed return to the court this season.

Great news. For a little while there, I was beginning to think the Celtics are cursed.
