The Boston Celtics kick off the 2013 NBA Playoffs against the New York Knicks Saturday at 3pm.  What can we expect? The Big 3 era Celtics have always been a bit of a “box of chocolates” team when the playoffs roll around. In 2008 they entered the playoffs as a juggernaut; winning 66 regular season games and posting a per-game point differential of +10.3.  When the playoffs started, they struggled to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, needing the full seven games to dispatch both the Atlanta Hawks and Lebron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers.  Of course, that first round series against the Hawks wasn’t as close as it seemed - it may have been the least competitive seven game series in NBA playoff history -  the Celtics outscored the Hawks by 101 points in their 4 wins (including a 34 point drubbing in Game 7) while dropping 3 games by a total of 17 points.  The Celtics finally rediscovered their Ubuntu in the Conference Finals against the Detroit Pistons and eventually rolled to thei...

NBA Playoffs Preview: Heat vs. Bucks

The defending champs will take on the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round of the playoffs.  At first thought, this won’t be much of a challenge for them.  At second thought, it still won’t be much of a challenge for them.  Milwaukee clearly doesn’t have the tools to compete with the Heat. What Miami needs to do to win: Nothing special.  They just need to play their game...

LeBron James Could Be First Unanimous MVP in NBA History, Expected to Win Award for Fourth Time in Five Years

MIAMI — There has never been a unanimous MVP in the history of the NBA. Not Wilt Chamberlain, not Bill Russell, not Shaquille O’Neal, not Michael Jordan. LeBron James might soon change that. At least, the Miami Heat believe he should. After finally winning that first NBA title last June, James was better than ever in his first year as a champion. He led the league in field goals...

LeBron humbled at 4-time MVP status

LeBron James says he's humbled to keep the company he will join by winning the NBA's Most Valuable Player award for a fourth time. A formal announcement is planned Sunday, the eve of the Eastern Conference semifinals for the Miami Heat. The honor will vault James into an elite category shared by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain, the...

Heat back in playoff mode, set for Milwaukee

LeBron James typically cannot sleep much before the first game of a postseason. Even after 10 years in the league, three MVP awards and a championship, Game 1 still kicks his anxiety level into high gear. ''Like the night before Christmas,'' James said. Makes sense, since the Miami Heat have been waiting about a year for this. The eight preseason outings, the 82...

No longer a villain, LeBron writing own book

MIAMI Shane Battier knows exactly how LeBron James was looked upon a year ago. He even provided a demonstration. The Miami Heat forward cocked his head to the right. Then he halfway closed his right eye. People were skeptical and sort of gave him the hairy eyeball, Battier said. Research turned up that Battier was uttering an expression that means to look at somebody disapprovingly...

Another MVP for LeBron seems likely

There has never been a unanimous MVP in the history of the NBA. Not Wilt Chamberlain, not Bill Russell, not Shaquille O'Neal, not Michael Jordan. LeBron James might soon change that. At least, the Miami Heat believe he should. After finally winning that first NBA title last June, James was better than ever in his first year as a champion. He led the league in field goals,...

Who Is The Favorite For Andrew Wiggins?

Andrew Wiggins may be the best high school prospectsince LeBron James and has four schools hoping hechooses themIf you are a college basketball fan, you are probably aware that Andrew Wiggins is the top recruit in the 2013 class.  He may be the best high school player since LeBron James back in 2003.  Not only is he good, he still hasn't made up a college choice yet.  That...

The Miami Heat Will Have Their Own Playoff Champagne

Because having LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh on their team isn’t enough incentive for obscenely rich Miami Heat fans to get to their courtside seats on time, they’ll now be greeted with a spiffy white goblet of Moët Ice Impérial, the official champagne of Miami’s 2012-13 playoff run. Okay, we’re being a little harsh. After all, Miami fans were voted the #1 most...

Miami Heat to Fans: Champagne Anyone?

The Miami Heat are good. No, they aren't just good--these guys are something special. They are easily the favorites to win the NBA Finals. Heck, with LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh on the roster how can they not be? When you are expected to cruise through the East into the Finals why not enjoy the ride? Why not make the ride itself something special? It appears...

The Bucks...

NBA Season Awards: The Year Of The Mostly Obvious

He's a Happy King With the NBA season coming to a close tonight, I thought I'd weigh in with my picks for the NBA's regular season awards. Feel free to agree or chastise, as always, in the comments. MVP: LeBron James, and it's not close. (Sorry, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul and, shockingly, Carmelo Anthony; you are all playing in the wrong era.) James is the best player...

Pat Riley: Heat can Keep Big 3

The Miami Heat are potentially set up for a dynasty with the likes of LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh in the fold. But with each player possessing the option to opt out after next season, the question has always been whether or not the Heat would be able to keep all 3 down the road. With the potential luxury tax penalties for teams over the salary cap, keeping this...
