It’s possible that these two might swap jerseys next year.It almost seemed like the rumor mill surrounding the Celtics was going to calm down, at least for draft night, but then Adrian Wojnarowski — as he tends to do — dropped a Woj bomb all over us, decimating our idyllic, temporarily calm little world.Wojnarowski is reporting that the Celtics and Nets are discussing a deal that would send Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to Brooklyn in exchange for three first round picks (!!!) and a couple of bad contracts. Here’s Woj:The talks are centering around a package that would include Gerald Wallace, Tomike Shengelia, the expiring deal of Kris Humphries and three future first-round picks, sources told Y! Sports.Garnett has yet to be approached about waiving his no-trade clause, sources said, but there’s a belief that he could be persuaded to agree to a deal should the Celtics and Nets be able to reach an agreement on terms. No deal is imminent. So many important things to note about this potential deal, so we’ll do a few bullet points.Gerald Wallace’s deal (three years, $30 million) is awful. Awful awful. However, according to Devin Kharpetian of The Brooklyn Game (@uuords on Twitter), Wallace has a stretch exception that allows a team that waives a player between July 1-August 31 to pay his contract in lesser amounts over more years. I’m not entirely sure how that works, but if the deal becomes more imminent (according to multiple sources, it is NOT imminent at the moment), we will do some more digging. For now, it seems to be pretty widely understood that the sticking point in this deal would be Wallace’s contract.Humphries and Rondo in the same locker room = LOL.Three first-round draft picks is a pretty unbelievable haul, especially with the 2014 draft looming large and the Clippers’ unprotected pick coming in 2015.That being said, of course, Pierce and Garnett being gone would sting, especially to an Atlantic Division team we will see roughly 300 times in the next couple years. The Nets want Pierce and Garnett, banking on Pierce to sway Garnett into waiving his no-trade clause.Several sources have pointed out that no deal would be possible until July 10, when the moratorium period would be lifted. As Woj pointed out on Twitter, the teams need Pierce’s 2013-’14 salary to make this whole thing work.As you can see, the deal is little more than a rumor at this point, extremely complicated and far from completion, but the fact that Woj reported it gives the story more legs than most offseason reports. We will keep you posted.Follow Tom on Twitter: @Tom_NBA.
