In an odd twist of fate, Washington did their division rival Dallas a favor yesterday by beating New York, paving the way for Dallas to win the NFC East and head to the playoffs.  With only two more games left to play, can Tony Romo take his team to the postseason?

Yes, but not without winning both games.  Dallas have two tough games left, one against Philadelphia and one against New York.  Romo’s first encounter with Philadelphia this season didn’t go so well.  He only completed 18 of 35 passes for 203 yards (his second lowest this season), one interception, and only one touchdown.  He was sacked four times for a total loss of 21 yards. The Cowboys were blown out 34-7 as a result, their worst loss of the season.  It goes without saying that he will have to do better than that in their next game.

Romo’s performance against the Giants in Week 14 was better, but not enough to win.  He completed 21 of 31 passes for 321 yards, no interceptions, and four touchdowns.  He was sacked three times, though, for a total loss of 16 yards.  The Cowboys fought tooth and nail, but ultimately lost by three points.  If they can pick up where they left off and play a cleaner game when they face the Giants on their final game of the season, they can definitely win their division.

So, after reading all of that, do I still think Romo can take the Cowboys to the playoffs?  I do…but not without a long, awkward pause.

Romo performs the worst against teams in his own division, which could be an issue.  The Giants were just humiliated for a second time by the Redskins and can only make the playoffs if they win their next two games. The Eagles may be out of the playoff picture, but they need to keep winning games to keep their reputation intact.  Considering the fact that they just slaughtered the Jets yesterday, Romo and his teammates are going to have to empty the tank in order to make it to the playoffs.
