Michael Lombardi might have to quit putting titles on business cards as he now has his third title in six weeks. Lombardi, who was named Vice PresidentPlayer Personnel on January 18, 2013is now the teams General Manager. Before joining the Browns, he was an analyst on the NFL Network. Meanwhile, Ray Farmer was named the Assistant General Manager. In his role, Farmer will work closely with Lombardi, where he will help manage both the pro and college scouting departments. Banner said that in order to hire Farmer away from the Chiefs, the move had to be more than a lateral move. Thus Lombardi was given the title of General Manager and Farmer Assistant General Manager. There is no change in Mikes responsibilities, Banner said in a conference call. The change in Mikes title was necessitated to add Ray to get permission from Kansas City. We interviewed Ray for the position (of GM). Ive always admired Ray and have been working on this for a little while.Farmer was interviewed before the Browns named Lombardi as the VP of Player Personnel. Ray is highly regarded in league circles as an outstanding evaluator of talent, said Banner. We had the opportunity to meet with Ray in our initial search for a general manager and came away extremely impressed. I have known Ray since he played with us in Philadelphia, and I am familiar with the type of person he is, his work ethic and his knowledge of the game. We are very fortunate that we were able to add someone of Rays caliber to our personnel staff. Farmer was the Kansas City Chiefs Director of Pro Personnel from 2006-12. During his tenure with the Chiefs, Farmer was responsible for scouting all players with professional experience, evaluating current players in the NFL, Canadian Football League and all other pro leagues. Prior to joining the Chiefs, Farmer spent four seasons (2002-05) as a pro scout with the Atlanta Falcons. He will be an integral part in all of the decisions we have to make regarding personnel, Banner said. He is a top evaluator of talent in the NFL. Farmers connection to Banner is he played for the Eagles after being a fourth-round draft choice of the Eagles in the 1996 NFL Draft, Farmer played three seasons (1996-98) at linebacker for the Eagles, appearing in 32 games with 16 starts before a knee injury ended his career.
