Peterson split the 2017 season between New Orleans and Arizona. Shanna Lockwood-USA TODAY Sports

Adrian Peterson has spent 11 seasons int he National Football League. But it looks like his chances are getting slimmer as the days go on. Latest reports indicate that the Arizona Cardinals will waive him.

“After acquiring him from the New Orleans Saints in October, the Arizona Cardinals will be moving on from running back Adrian Peterson, according to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s Mike Jurecki.”

But it certainly isn’t for financial reasons. After all, Peterson’s salary cap hit for the 2018 season would be just $3.5 million. Moreover, just $2 million of that is base salary. Over the course of his career, he would lead the league in rushing on three separate occasions. He would lead the league in touchdowns twice. And, he would lead the league in yards per game four times.

But the past couple of years have been really rough on the future Hall of Fame running back. Injuries limited ‘All Day’ to just three games in 2016, as well as 1.9 yards per carry. And across 10 appearances between the Saints and Cardinals, Peterson would average just 3.4 yards per carry. His career clock is ticking.

In the meantime, is there a team out there willing to take a chance on the aging running back?
