PLAYERS: Cam Newton
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- By his own admission, Cam Newton hasn't arrived. The Panthers 23-year-old quarterback sees plenty of room for improvement this preseason even after a record-setting rookie campaign. Newton had 35 combined touchdowns in 2011 for Carolina (No. 20 in the AP Pro32) but says there are still "a lot of holes" in his game. He hopes to work those out in Saturday night's preseason opener against Houston (No. 6). Newton says he wants to limit his turnovers, improve ball placement and make key plays throughout the game, including the third quarter -- where the Panthers struggled at times last season. Newton offered no predictions on how the offense will perform this season, but says he's anxious for the team's first "pop quiz" against a talented Texans defense.

The first exhibition game usually features starters in for a series or two, but mostly, it gives teams a chance to hit someone new (see: New York Jets fights on Monday and Tuesday this week). Cam Newton wants a girlfriend not interested in his fame and money

Cam Newton is looking for a girlfriend. And like many jocks before him, he’s having a hard time finding “The One” who loves him just for him and not for limelight that comes along with him. Got a girlfriend? “I wish I did,” the magnetic Carolina Panthers quarterback said during a recent sit-down interview with [...]

Cam Newton is trying to avoid gold diggers

Getty Images Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton understands there will be plenty of women that will only see one thing when he enters a room, and that’s the money he has. Newton says he prays for help every night he goes out so he’ll be able to tell the gold diggers from the women that genuinely like him. “It’s a cliché for people to say you have to be on alert,...

Carolina Panthers 2012 Season Preview

I may have been one of the harshest Cam Newton critics coming into last season.  I knew he had talent, it just wasn’t conventional talent that typically translated to immediate NFL success, and I am not afraid to admit when I am wrong. He had a historically good rookie season, putting up gaudy statistics, and winning over skeptics from all over the vast sea of haters known as...

With all the chatter lately about the necessity of having an 'elite' quarterback I wanted to explore what exactly makes one elite, who the current elites are and who will be elites of future.    My personal definition of an elite quarterback encompasses four main ingredients:   1) Leadership 2) Rising to the occasion 3) Longevity 4) Winning   You may have noticed...

Will Carolina Panthers’ defense let Cam down again?

Last season, Cam Newton impressed everyone in the NFL with his amazing record setting rookie season with the Carolina Panthers. Cam Newton never once let up and showed game after game that he truly was the real deal. Even critics couldn’t deny that Cam proved them wrong as most expected Cam to be a bust [...]
