NFL Network analyst and former football superstar Deion Sanders said last week that Tony Romo would NOT be the Dallas Cowboys quarterback when the franchise won it’s next Super Bowl. Actually I saw the segment on air when he criticized Romo’s game, and he kind of came off a lot harsher than this quote suggests.

Romo’s lack of consistency and failure to reach the lofty expectations placed upon him made Sanders’ comments anything but a reach. They were interesting, but not going out on a limb.

It took all week, but here’s Romo’s BORING, cliche convention of a quote. Get ready, it’s extremely dull and looks like a PR flak crafted it.

“Every once in a while you definitely hear things that come out, but that’s not something you search out,” Romo said Thursday. “Deion’s welcome to his own opinion about stuff. Deion’s Deion. He is what he is. We’re going to go out here and we’re going to play good football.” (Source ESPN.com)

BORING!!!!!!!

But there’s more bromides and tautologies. After this response, a Dallas Cowboys media relations staffer’s dream, Romo gave more yawn-inducing, banal, trite canned remarks. Kudos to him for hitting so many sports media cliches in such few sentences.

“This team’s going to win a Super Bowl at some point, and it’s going to be exciting when that time comes. And when we look back we’ll know who was on what side of the fence during the tough moments. That’s exciting for us as competitors that we get a chance to get better and go out there and have a chance one day.”

YAWN.

So here we could have had an interesting smack-down, mild media-generated feud between a former Hall of Fame former Dallas Cowboys player and the Cowboys current starting quarterback. Instead we have meh. Or maybe it’s blah.

Good times!
