The Rangers after having Sunday off and with three practices until Thursday’s game at Philadelphia ended today’s session with some hard conditioning skating that left more than a few tongues hanging. Typical hockey stuff and not the reason Henrik Lundqvist was not on the ice today. “He just needed an extra day here we had five days in between games” said coach Alain Vigneault before praising Lundqvist pretty well considering he coached Roberto Luongo the past seven seasons. “Hank’s one of our top players he’s definitely a leader and a force on this team. When you struggle whether it be on a personal note or a team note a lot of times you let those guys work it out and Hank’s battling right now. I’m very confident he’s been the best goaltender in the NHL for some time. I’d say it’s a safe bet that he’s going to find his groove.” As for retired veteran backup Marty Biron Vigneault said “I only knew Marty was he was 19 when I had him in Quebec (in junior hockey)” Vigneault said.

The time is now for Chris Kreider

Chris Kreider returns to the Rangers at a very interesting time. Our new “offensive system” has generated 1.57 goals per game. Three of our top players are injured. And when Life of Pyatt is 2nd among forwards in ice time, as he was last night, you can understand some of the negative sentiment percolating this fan base. Although it’s only been 7 games, something has to give...

Evaluating Alain Vigneault seven games in

Don’t jump to any conclusions after seven games Before the already numerous Alain Vigneault haters get their tail feathers ruffled, remember that we are only SEVEN games into the season, so none of this means a whole lot yet.  However, Vigneault was brought in to implement widespread changes to the team’s tactics and approach to the game, so we are understandably keeping a close...

Practice notes: New powerplays/lines, Hank out with “minor” issue

Per Pat Leonard, Henrik Lundqvist did not practice today due to a “minor” issue. In another tweet later, Leonard noted that Alain Vigneault is not 100% certain that Hank can play on Thursday in Philadelphia. Also per Leonard, AV switched up his lines once more, which answers some questions from yesterday’s confusing combos: Chris Kreider-Derek Stepan-Brad Richards Benoit Pouliot...

Early season struggles early for New York Rangers’ netminder

After another shaky performance in goal last night, Henrik Lundqvist was pegged, as he often is, as that player that has to be better for the Rangers. It’s not unfamiliar rhetoric surrounding The King, who, by virtue of being the team’s best player, is the one who people point to when things aren’t going well. When a team depends on a guy the way the Rangers depend on Lundqvist...

Henrik Lundqvist out tomorrow

Per Steve Zipay, Henrik Lundqvist will not play tomorrow in Philadelphia. Hank missed yesterday’s practice with what was deemed a “minor” issue, but apparently it is enough to keep him out of tomorrow’s game. Cam Talbot will make his NHL debut tomorrow. Tweet

Lundqvist Won’t Dress For Thursday’s Game, But Will Travel

from Andrew Gross of Ranger Rants, Coach Alain Vigneault made Henrik Lundqvist’s absence from Thursday night’s game at Philadelphia official today when he announced his star goalie would not dress for the game as he continues to battle an undisclosed injury. “If this had been a playoff game, he’d probably be playing,” Vigneault said. “It’s something that...

Vigneault: Rangers must play harder

Very little has gone right so far this year for the Rangers from the injuries that have depleted the team’s attack to the surprisingly erratic play of Henrik Lundqvist and suspect work in front of him by the Blueshirts’ defensemen. The biggest problem however is the team’s inconsistent effort coach Alain Vigneault said. “I do know that my teams compete my teams play hard...

Rangers @ Flyers Preview

The Flyers host the Rangers at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia Thursday night. The Rangers, with a record of 2-5, are off to a rocky start, however, not quite as rocky as the Flyers, with a record of 1-7. Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist will miss Thursday’s game, coach  Alain Vigneault said Wednesday. An official diagnosis has yet to be confirmed, but the injuries are...

Kreider on top line with Stepan and Richards

Per Pat Leonard, the newly recalled Chris Kreider is getting another shot at top line minutes, this time skating with Derek Stepan and Brad Richards. The rest of the lines: Richards-Stepan-Kreider Taylor Pyatt-Brian Boyle-Matz Zuccarello Benoit Pouliot-Derick Brassard-Derek Dorsett J.T. Miller-Dom Moore-Jesper Fast On defense, Michael Del Zotto was back in the lineup: Ryan McDonagh...

Thoughts Of Hockey

from Elliotte Friedman of CBC, - I asked a few people who've seen New York Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist: "What do you see there? What's wrong?" There are two things mentioned. First, the team defence is not good, which can make any goalie look bad. The second is that he looks smaller. In September, Lundqvist said he felt faster in the new equipment. But...

MAG: Vanity Fair’s Top 10 Best-Dressed NHL Players

Hockey players have style too! Vanity Fair has curated their list of the Top 10 Best-Dressed NHL Players. Cool list, but my only beef was that there was only one New York Ranger on this list, Henrik Lundqvist. They’re the most stylish team in hockey! they forgot my guys  Brian Boyle, Michael Del Zotto, and Brad Ricards. Those three should of been included in the top 10 in my opinion...

Making sense of yesterday’s line combinations

(Andy Clark/Reuters) When the new line combinations were made public knowledge during yesterday’s practice, a lot of questions and a lot of heat were directed at the coach. The top line of Derek Stepan as the pivot between Brad Richards and Chris Kreider made sense. All three defense pairings made sense. But the second, third, and fourth forward lines looked like something out...

Around the Farm: Shorthanded Wolfpack drop first game of season

The Hartford Wolfpack, missing J.T. Miller, Chris Kreider, Brandon Mashinter, and Cam Talbot, lost their first regulation game of the season to the Portland Pirates by a score of 4-2. Danny Kristo and Kyle Jean scored for the Pack, while Michael St. Croix was held off the score sheet in his AHL debut. See below for the scoring lines for all prospects in action in the AHL, OHL, and...

New Jersey Devils Back in Action, Searching for Winning Streak

By Kristin Tullo (@K_Tullo) Getty Images The New Jersey Devils felt their first breath of life Saturday night when they pummeled Henrik Lundqvist and the Rangers 4-0 at the Prudential Center for their first victory of the season. The otherwise winless Devils will be back in action tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets in hopes of stringing together their first two-game win streak...

Afternoon Line

“We can’t say 100 percent sure he’s going to be good to go on Thursday, but I can’t say 100 percent he’s not going to be. He’s getting better. He’s got something he’s been dealing with for a little bit of time, and since we had four days between games, we figured it was the right time to try to nip this in the bud.” -New York Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault...
