Cue up TJ Oshie to score the first goal of the 2021-22 season for the Washington Capitals. The forward lit the lamp 4:39 into the game off a nice pass to the net from captain Alex Ovechkin.

Ovechkin was set in his primed spot at the left circle. He took the feed, but instead of his customary slap shot, Ovechkin passed the puck towards the crease.

As the puck bounced in front of New York Rangers goaltender Alexandar Georgiev, Oshie crashed the net poking it in for the score.

There has been a lot made of the rivalry between the Capitals and Rangers. There was anticipation surrounding the tension between the two teams. Gloves did drop in the first two minutes, but it’s the Capitals who focused in for the first goal.
