NASCAR Cup Series driver Ryan Newman continues his recovery following a frightening crash at the Daytona 500. Matthew O'Haren-USA TODAY Sports

Ryan Newman was involved in a very scary crash at the end of the Daytona 500 on Monday night, but fortunately the driver’s health has steadily improved since he was taken to the hospital.

Roush Fenway Racing issued a statement on Wednesday saying Newman “continues to show great improvement” and has been fully alert and walking around while under the care of doctors.

Newman’s team also shared an encouraging photo that showed the 42-year-old smiling and posing with his two daughters.

Newman crashed on the final lap near the finish line of the Daytona 500, causing his car to turn over and catch fire. He was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Given how nasty the wreck looked, Newman is fortunate his injuries were not much worse. We’re glad to hear he’s doing well.
