Luka Doncic is getting plenty of attention ahead of the NBA Draft, and his mother is sure to turn heads as well.

Mirjam Poterbin has been a big part of Doncic’s career, moving to Madrid to be with him as he navigated the professional waters as a young teen.

“He was always playing with the ball,” Poterbin said of Doncic during a predraft special on NBATV. “But I was never thinking much about this.”

Poterbin, who was a model, dancer and hurdler, said she thought her soon was too young to move to Madrid. But he wanted to pursue basketball, so she let him.

“My mom is very important, to be here with me. Everything new — you need to have a person to stay with you,” Luka says of his mom.

Luka’s father is Sasa Doncic, a former basketball coach and player in Slovenia and the EuroLeague.
