Heat acquire Kyle Lowry in blockbuster trade with Raptors

The long-awaited marriage between Kyle Lowry and the Miami Heat has now come to fruition. With NBA free agency opening on Monday, Miami was able to acquire the six-time All-Star in a sign-and-trade with the Toronto Raptors.

The reported specifics are rather interesting. Veteran guard Goran Dragic and 2020 first-round pick Precious Achiuwa head to Toronto in the deal. Meanwhile, Kyle Lowry receives a three-year-contract from Miami

To say that this is a massive move for Heat front office head Pat Riley would be an understatement. Despite his advanced age of 35, Lowry continues to play at a high level. The point guard averaged 17.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 7.3 assists on a resounding 40% shooting from three-point range for the Raptors a season ago.

Kyle Lowry will now team up with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo to form an elite-level trio in South Beach after an ugly first-round exit in the 2021 NBA Playoffs.

As for the Raptors, look for them to flip Goran Dragic to another team for more assets. The acquisition of Achiuwa is the headliner here.
