Former Wizards guard Isaiah Thomas was a star for the University of Washington from 2008-11. Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Isaiah Thomas is doing his part to provide some relief to the dedicated and overworked staffers employed at hospitals operated by the University of Washington by providing meals for them at three locations.

Thomas, who starred for the Washington Huskies for three seasons before declaring for the NBA draft in 2011, will foot the bill for meals provided by Pagliacci’s Pizza, a small business in the Seattle area which obviously is also suffering due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

As laid out in a tweet from Yahoo Sports senior NBA insider Chris Haynes, Thomas’ meal donations will occur over seven days between April 7-14. Between 500 and 600 meals will be provided each day and will serve upward of 1,000 employees.

Currently a free agent, Thomas spent some time with the Washington Wizards during a 2019-20 NBA campaign now on indefinite hiatus amid the COVID-19 outbreak. In 40 games, the 31-year-old veteran averaged 12.2 points, 3.7 assists and 2.7 rebounds.

After being traded to the Los Angeles Clippers at the trade deadline, Thomas was waived two days later.

The NBA’s ongoing hiatus has made Thomas signing with another team next to impossible. It remains to be seen whether the two-time All-Star point guard will catch on with another squad once play ultimately resumes.

In his three seasons at UW, Thomas was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and also received All-Pac-10 first team honors in his sophomore and junior seasons.
