Kyrie Irving gets very honest about Muslim faith

This week, Irving expounded a bit on his new faith and the ramifications of it on his current NBA season.

Specifically, Irving acknowledged he is taking part in Ramadan and admitted that “it’s been an adjustment.”

“It’s just being committed to my service to God, Allah,” he said.

“And then continuing on with whatever I’m guided with. I’m just happy to be part of my community and doing the right things. So, fasting is definitely part of it — if you know anything about the Muslim community. But yeah, just really blessed and grateful to be taking part of this.”

Irving didn’t play against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday for “personal reasons.” So far this year the 29-year-old has played in just 44 games.

Overall, this has been an up and down season for Irving. Although he is putting up some of the best numbers of his career, he has been involved in one dust-up after another.

There was Irving’s notable drama with Dennis Schroder of the Los Angeles Lakers. And his insistence on sitting out game after game after game for questionable reasons. And his situation with LeBron James.

Irving has been tremendous whenever he has taken the floor this season, but it would definitely be nice to see him there a little more often.
