Pascal Siakam Falls Short of All-NBA Honors As Contract Extension Questions Loom
USA TODAY Sports

Pascal Siakam will not be supermax extension eligible this summer.

The Toronto Raptors forward fell just short of this year’s All-NBA honors, finishing with 15 voter points, 66 shy of LeBron James at 81 who claimed the final of the two third-team forward spots.

First-team honors went to Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum, Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Joel Embiid . The second-team All-NBA forwards were Jaylen Brown and Jimmy Butler joined by Stephen Curry, Donovan Mitchell, and Nikola Jokic. James and Julius Randle rounded out the third-team All-NBA alongside De'Aaron Fox, Damian Lillard, and Domantas Sabonis.

By failing to make the team, Siakam will not be eligible for a supermax extension this summer that could have paid him roughly $290.3 million over five years following the end of his current contract. Instead, Siakam will only be eligible for a max contract extension of four years, roughly $192.2 million should he look to sign a deal with Toronto this summer.

Siakam could still hold out for a bigger deal, though. If he waits through this offseason and qualifies for an All-NBA team next year, he would once again be eligible to sign a supermax deal, this time as a free agent re-signing with the Raptors rather than as a contract extension.

If he fails to make an All-NBA team next season, Siakam would be eligible for five year, roughly $248.8 million contract from the Raptors as a free agent in 2024.

For now, Siakam has $37.9 million remaining on the final year of his contract with Toronto. He is coming off a 2022-23 campaign in which he set career highs with 24.2 points and 5.8 assists per game while averaging six rebounds en route to his second All-Star Game appearance.
