Tom Wilson played just one minute and 33 seconds on the ice during the Washington Capitals’ first-round series loss to the Florida Panthers. Wilson left the bench during Game 1 after scoring the series’ first goal. He did not return and the Capitals announced he had a lower body injury.

Wilson missed the remainder of the series, and the Capitals lost the series in six games.

Wilson announced Sunday during his exit interview with Washington media that he suffered a “significant” knee injury, according to Samantha Pell of the Washington Post. He’s unsure if he will need surgery. But, he tried to work his way back to rejoin the series but couldn’t.

When asked if the injury was ACL-related, Wilson wouldn’t elaborate on the specifics of the injury.

He did admit it will take him some time before he touches the ice again. He acknowledged he will use this summer to rehab.

“My summer sucks now,” Wilson proclaimed per Pell.

Wilson had a career year during the regular season. He had career highs with 52 points, 24 goals and 28 assists in 78 games. His work carried over into the moments of the playoffs with the quick power play goal. Unfortunately, his season was cut short.

Focus on Wilson will now shift towards his rehab and recovery during the offseason.
