Liverpool were relentless last season and thoroughly deserved to win the league by 10 points. Significant money was spent this summer, and despite the devastating loss of Diogo Jota, hopes were high among Liverpool fans. The reality has been a huge disappointment, with six defeats in the league and 24 goals conceded in just 15 league games. Following the recent 3-3 draw with Leeds, Jamie Redknapp spoke to Sky Sports about the club’s defensive struggles and identified Marc Guehi as the “perfect fit” to help Liverpool improve their current form.
Liverpool overcame a difficult start but found themselves 2-0 up and seemingly on the verge of a huge three points. A penalty to Leeds in the 73rd minute sparked a huge meltdown that resulted in Arne Slot’s team drawing 3-3.
Talking to Sky Sports about the club’s defensive struggles, Redknapp said: “Right now, it would probably do Konate a favour to take him out of the firing line a little bit.
“But they haven’t really got those options. You’ve got to manage, Conor Bradley’s minutes, Joe Gomez has had so many injuries you have to be careful there with his knee.”
Identifying Marc Guehi as the player to solve Liverpool’s defensive struggles, Redknapp said: “The ideal one would be to get Guehi in January. He’s out of contract in the summer so I’m sure Crystal Palace will be looking at that as their only opportunity to get some money out of that situation.
“He would be a perfect fit for Liverpool. That’s exactly what they need to play alongside Virgil van Dijk. Then you can mix it up and play a back three if you wanted to do that.
“They need to get another centre-back in.”
