AFC Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams was taken off the United States men's national team squad for upcoming friendlies against Paraguay and Uruguay after injuring his knee Sunday in the club's 3-1 loss to Manchester City.
Adams may not have fit the traditional mold of a World Cup captain, but his leadership skills and work ethic were clearly unparalleled in the USMNT squad.
It's been a wild year for Tyler Adams. After the high of captaining the United States at the World Cup and leading Leeds United to a several early-season victories, the young midfielder suffered a season-ending hamstring injury and watched from the sidelines as his team got relegated from the Premier League.
