Thursday at 3 PM the University of Pittsburgh Panthers football team welcomed new Head Coach Paul Chryst to the team. Chryst is the fourth coach in the last fourteen months after a long timeline of embarrassing, and stressful events leading to today. Lets take a look at the last fourteen months to understand the unbalance that is Pitt Football:
  • December 7th, 2010- Dave Wannstedt resigns as Head Coach after 5 years with the program
  • December 15th, 2010- Michael Haywood is named Head Coach at Pitt
  • January 1st, 2011- Head Coach Michael Haywood fired on charges of domestic violence
  • January 10th, 2011- Todd Graham hired as Pitt Head Coach
  • December 14th, 2011 Todd Graham leaves Pitt to coach Arizona State University
  • December 22nd, 2011 Paul Chryst named Head Coach of University of Pittsburgh
Chryst was a candidate after the Haywood firing, but the job was given to Graham. Coach Paul Chryst is the former Offensive Coordinator of the Wisconsin Badgers. This year the Badgers' averaged 44.6 points per game, won the Big Ten Conference, and locked up a Rose Bowl Bid. Wisconsin was ranked 9th in the country, and had a record of 11-2. The Badgers ranked 4th in the country in rushing yards, 6th in points forced, and 64th in passing.

Chryst is known for his offensive genius, and his ability to adapt to new offensive strategies. This is a good hire for Pitt, that being said, it is hard for the fans to be satisfied with all of the turmoil surrounding the program and the history with their coaches. Only time will tell if this hire will work out, but if it doesn't look for Athletic Director Steve Pederson's to slide on the hot seat. In his history at Pitt he has been known for the hires of Walt Harris, Michael Haywood, and Todd Graham. None of whom worked out for the University of Pittsburgh.
