(Sewell is, coincidentally, number 22 in the black Ridgeway jersey)
There are always going to be those guys who sit around and talk about the “what ifs” and the “what could have beens” of when they played high school sports. But really there’s not much they can do about it—or so I thought.
Apparently, a 22-year-old man in Memphis, Tenn., posed as a student at Ridgeway High School so he could play basketball.
According to a report from Dime Magazine, 6-foot-6 McKinzie Sewell got his wife to sign papers saying she was his guardian, and she helped him forge phony transcripts.
Sewell is a former gang member, according to a report WREG in Memphis. Sewell also has a GED from the state of Louisiana and it seems like his sole purpose of returning to high school was to play basketball.
Now, the Ridgeway basketball team has been ruled ineligible for the state playoffs, despite being just one game away. Even worse, it’s because a player who played marginal minutes off the bench lied about his age.
