A newly-hired high school athletic coach apparently thought he had developed a brilliant way to meet new women.
Troy Hennum, 25, was hired by Roosevelt High School in Seattle last week to serve as the school's softball coach. His first mission to the players included reportedly having them go on a scavenger hunt to take photos of attractive girls, then securing their phone numbers for him.
Naturally, Hennum has already been placed on unpaid leave within a week of being hired.
From The Seattle Times:
Katharine Aagard said she was at work at a sporting-goods store last Friday when a group of giggling girls approached, explaining their mission. Later that day, the 21-year-old began receiving text messages from Hennum.
“this is troy. The roosevelt softball coach. I had to see if your legit,” he wrote.
Aagard responded, and the two bantered over the course of a few hours.
She showed those messages to The Seattle Times.
“Genius, great way to meet a girl, use my girls lol,” he wrote in another text, patting himself on the back for the scavenger hunt.
“Are you single? Or am I wasting my time,” he wrote in another message.
Eventually, the eligible bachelor apparently proposed the two to meet at a local bar. That never materialized.
Aagard informed the school of Hennum's unusual plot and the softball coach learned he was under investigation by Monday. At that point, he decided to give Aagard a call. She says she didn't answer and he left a message on her voicemail, instead.
“I wanted to apologize to you and get on the same page if possible. Hopefully we can get on the same page.”
Too late.
Perhaps the school should have seen this coming, though.
In 2012, Hennum was let go of his coaching duties at another local high school, for reportedly sending inappropriate texts to a player during an overnight trip. One of the texts asked the female to meet him alone.
