David Robertson was announced as the New York Yankees nominee for the 2013 Roberto Clemente Award. (Mike Stobe/Getty Images) Named after the 15-time All-Star and Hall of Fame outfielder Roberto Clemente; the award is in recognition of a player who best represents the game of baseball in positive ways on and off the field. This includes sportsmanship and community involvement. David and his wife Erin founded High Socks for Hope. The 501(c)(3) corporation was founded in 2011 after tornadoes ravaged Tuscaloosa, Alabama, David Robertson’s hometown. The foundation would also aid those affected in May 2013 by the tornadoes in Moore, Oklahoma. It also looked to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy in New York. In June, David and Erin, with volunteers from NBTY Helping Hands, helped families displaced from their homes due to Hurricane Sandy. On the field, David Robertson pledged that $100 would be donated for every strikeout he recorded in 2011 and 2012 to aid those affected in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. For the 2013 season, every strikeout he recorded would be donated to aid those affected by the tornadoes in Moore, Oklahoma
