Gone And ForgottenYou might remember him as a guy with a lot of power potential—potential being the operative word. The Toronto Blue Jays designated for assignment former Red Sox first baseman Mauro Gomez yesterday. Gomez played 37 games in last year's debacle, hitting .275 with a couple of dingers. Boston signed Gomez in February of 2012 as a free agent. He had previously been in the Texas and Atlanta organizations.

The Diamondbacks were going to need an incredible September to have any chance of winning the NL's second wild-card spot. But they've gotten off to a poor start to the month after a shaky finish to August, putting a serious dent in their playoff aspirations.

It has been a hot and cold first season as a starting pitcher for Esmil Rogers but after this his best outing of the season Rogers has clearly thrown his hat in the ring for a spot in the rotation in 2014.
