IT IS HIGH, IT IS FAR, IT IS caught:
The Post Standard (Syracuse, NY)August 13, 2012 Monday To the Editor:I recently took my 9-year-old grandson, a big Yankees fan, to see a New York Yankees' ballgame. Our plan was to arrive in New York City about 12:30 p.m., (scheduled arrival time), meet my son who works in the city, see the sights and take the subway to Yankee Stadium for a 7 p.m. game. On game day we awoke at 5 a.m. and arrived at the Syracuse Amtrak station at 6:15 a.m. for a 7 a.m. departure. As departure time neared, an announcement was made that the train would be half an hour late due to traffic lights not working. After repeated delays, we boarded for a 9 a.m. departure. We finally arrived at Penn Station about 3 p.m. Our plans to see the 9/11 Memorial and the Statue of Liberty were reduced to viewing the memorial from the street and the statue from the distant view of Battery Park. The stadium, the Yankees' Memorial Park and seeing the delight and excitement displayed by my son and grandson...

From Bryan Hoch:The Yankees received encouraging news on Sunday regarding Alex Rodriguez and Andy Pettitte, who are both progressing toward September returns from the disabled list.
A-Rod and Pettitte had X-rays performed on their fractured left hand and fractured left fibula, respectively, and team doctors told the players that their injuries are healing as expected.
From Bryan Hoch:Pedro Feliciano hasn't thrown a pitch for the Yankees since signing a two-year, $8 million contract, but there is hope that may be about to change.
Feliciano pitched a scoreless inning on Saturday for the Gulf Coast Yankees, the lefty reliever's third outing for the club, and manager Joe Girardi is hopeful that Feliciano will be able to see time at the...
From George King:CC Sabathia will throw his first bullpen session since going on the disabled list today and said he believes he will return Friday in Cleveland.
While manager Joe Girardi would certainly welcome the Yankees’ staff ace back to the rotation the first day Sabathia is eligible, he is waiting to see how the big left-hander does during workouts .
“I will do a...
The Yankees will send the crafty right-hander, Freddy Garcia, to the hill tonight in game one of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox. In his last outing against the Rangers, Garcia tossed 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out six for his third consecutive win.
Mark Teixeira is back at first after sitting out the last three games with a sore...
While he is already a lock for the Baseball Hall of Fame as soon as he is eligible, New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter continues to add to his legacy by adding another milestone in last night’s victory over the Boston Red Sox.
In the fifth inning, Jeter hit one of five solo Yankees’ home runs in a 6-4 win over Boston, and this one was special.
It was the 250th...
The Yankees will send David Phelps to the mound today in game two of a three-game set against the Boston Red Sox. Phelps has faced the Red Sox twice this year, both times in a relief role. He allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings with five strikeouts. The 25-year-old is filling for the injured C.C. Sabathia, who is on the 15-day disabled list with a sore left elbow.
On Friday, Nick Swisher hit two homeruns in the game and last night it was Ichiro Suzuki's turn to hit two bombs in a game. Beckett allowed 4 runs and two of them were solo HRs from Ichiro. Those 4 runs were more than enough for Kuroda who has probably been the Yankees best pitcher this season. The Sox lost another series and are now 7.5 games back of the 2nd wild card...
Ichiro Suzuki homered twice and Hiroki Kuroda pitched eight innings of four-hit ball to lead the New York Yankees past Josh Beckett and the Boston Red Sox 4-1 on Sunday night.
Derek Jeter had three hits and scored twice for the Yankees, who took two of three from Boston despite playing the entire series without slugger Mark Teixeira. The AL East leaders won for the ninth time in...

The AL East-leading New York Yankees have rebounded from their rough patch.
The AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox, meanwhile, are suddenly in a little slump, and a home series against the Yankees might not be the best way to break out of it.
Surging New York could have Mark Teixeira back in the lineup as it looks to win its seventh straight game on Chicago's South Side in...
The Yankees took down the Red Sox 6-4 tonight. However, the real story is about the fireworks Yankee hitters provided.
Derek Jeter, the first-ballot hall of famer, just added to his legend by hitting career homerun number 250. That homerun put him in a very, very limited group. The only other player to ever have 3,000 hits, 250 homeruns, 300 steals and 1,200 RBIs is The Say Hey...
Yankees vs. Rangers Post Game Recap 8/15
The Yankees were able overcome a long rain delay to get their third straight win over the Texas Rangers beating them 3-2.
Freddy Garcia was very good against the frightening Texas lineup in earning his 7th win of the season. Garcia went 6.2 innings allowing four hits, one walk, two runs, and had six strikeouts. The only runs Texas was able...
Ryan Lavarnway sat out the last three games after playing four in a row. He'll be back in there Saturday against David Phelps and the Yankees. Lavarnway will bat sixth for the Red Sox, who have lost three of their last four, including Friday night's series opener. The 25-year-old enters Saturday's contest with a .125 average (9-for-39) in 17 games this season. Nick Punto...
8 a.m.: The Red Sox fell victim to the long ball on Friday night, dropping a game to the Yankees following five solo home runs off the bats of the Bronx Bombers. Franklin Morales was victimized by the New York bats en route to a 6-4 loss. But on Saturday Jon Lester will be on the mound, looking to continue with the solid form he showed when striking out 12 earlier in the week. The...
