Daniel Agger has hinted he could quit Anfield if he does not win his place back in Liverpool’s starting line-up. Agger, 28, has not started since the Reds’ 1-0 home defeat by Southampton in September, and the Denmark defender was an unused substitute in the 2-2 draw with Newcastle and again on Saturday for the 4-1 victory over West Brom. Summer signings Kolo Toure and Mamadou Sakho, along with Martin Skrtel, appear to be Rodgers’ preferred choices in his preferred back-three formation. Agger has been a target for Barcelona in the past and could consider his future at Anfield despite only signing a contract extension to 2016 last year. When asked what it would take for him to leave Liverpool, Agger said: “If I don’t play. If the manager doesn’t think I’m good enough, that could make me leave Liverpool. “I’m here to play football, nothing else. So if I don’t play football, then I don’t want to be here.” And Rodgers conceded it will not be easy to persuade him to change his mind. “In the run of games Martin Skrtel has had, he’s gained confidence and that has meant I’ve acknowledged and recognised that he’s playing at a really good level,” said Rodgers. “I’ve always tried to show fairness with the players. “If you are playing well, you’ll play. If you’re not, you’ll be in and out of the team.” Meanwhile, midfielder Lucas believes Luis Suarez’s commitment to the Reds can no longer be questioned with the Uruguayan determined to lead them into the Champions League. Suarez, 26, made it clear in the summer that he wanted to leave but Liverpool stood firm after Arsenal bid £40,000,001 in the misguided hope it would activate a release clause in his contract. Suarez’s stance left him isolated at the club, with many fans calling for the striker to be sold for his lack of loyalty. But since returning from his 10-game ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic last season, Suarez cannot stop scoring. He has struck six times in four Premier League games, including a hat-trick against West Brom on Saturday. “What Luis has done already this season just shows why the club wanted to keep him so much,” said Lucas. “We are happy he stayed with us and he’s showing every week how committed he is. “What happened in the summer doesn’t matter now. His mind is focused on helping the team achieve great things.
