The Los Angeles Angels initiated a culture shift within the organization with the hiring of manager Ron Washington as the team’s newest manager.

That news was also accompanied by several changes by the Angels front office, including their assistant general manager Alex Tamin, and minor league pitching coordinator Buddy Carlyle leaving the team. He’d been with the team since 2016, previously holding positions with five clubs.

The 45-year-old has reportedly found a new home shortly after ending his Angels tenure, being hired as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays according to Eno Sarris.

Carlyle joining the Rays is interesting enough because of the franchise’s dedication and reputation to developing pitching and finding the best within a player’s repertoire.

The Angels made the shift from Carlyle to Dom Chiti, who has more than 40 years experience within Major League Baseball.

Background on Dom Chiti, Minor League pitching coordinator

Chiti, joined the Angels in 2020 as a special assistant to current general manager Perry Minasian, eventually taking over as the interim bullpen coach the following year. He spent this past year with the New York Mets as their full-time bullpen coach.

Now back with the Angels, Chiti is transitioning to a new role, as the franchise’s Minor League pitching coordinator.

Chiti has the opportunity to oversee all plans for Angels Minor League pitchers. He’ll work to ensure all plans for prospects and their development are followed at each level.

Much of the buzz around Chiti is the respect he’s earned in his many stops around MLB, and the youth within the Angels can greatly benefit from someone with his experience.
