Oscar Colas Makes White Sox Opening Day Roster
Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

The White Sox top outfield prospect will open the season with the big league club.

Chicago White Sox prospect Oscar Colas has officially made the 2023 Opening Day roster. After an impressive Spring Training, the 24-year-old is with the team in Houston ahead of their Opening Day matchup with the Houston Astros.

Colas officially signed with the White Sox in January of 2022 and spent last season absolutely tearing up the minors. Across three levels of minor league ball, including stops at both Double-A and Triple-A, Colas slashed an impressive .314/.371/.524 with 23 home runs and 79 RBIs.

Invited into Spring Training, many expected Colas to compete for an Opening Day roster spot, and that is exactly what he did. During his time in Arizona, the left-hander’s power continued to show. Colas left the yard three times this spring in 66 plate appearances and finished with a .262./.273/.431 slash line.

Colas figures to see plenty of time in right field this season, although there is no word yet on whether he will be in the Opening Day lineup when the White Sox visit the Astros on Thursday.

The White Sox, as many other teams have done, showcased Colas's initial reaction to being informed that he made the roster in a heartwarming video.
