The Minnesota Twins head into play today sitting in fourth place in the American League Central two and a half games back from the division-leading Cleveland Guardians with a 17-13 record.
The Twins signed veteran right-hander Adam Plutko to a minor league contract, per the team’s transaction log at MLB.com. The CAA client will presumably head to Triple-A St.

BOSTON–After allowing seven home runs in his last 8 1/3 innings, the Orioles designated right-handed pitcher Adam Plutko for assignment on Sunday. Plutko, who was acquired from Cleveland just before the end of spring training, gave up 17 home runs in 56 1/3 innings.

The Orioles are 17-37, good for last place in the American League East. It would make sense for a rebuilding team at the bottom of its division to shop its veterans to corral more prospects, right?
BOSTON—Through two games, it’s not the home runs that have helped the Orioles to two wins. It’s small ball. On Saturday, the Orioles had eight hits, seven of them singles in beating the Boston Red Sox for the second straight time, 4-2 before 4,571 at Fenway Park.
The O’s have officially announced the deal, noting that Plutko was acquired for cash considerations.
Clevinger and Zach Plesac were both demoted after they violated MLB health and safety protocols and went out for a social dinner in Chicago following Plesac's start at the White Sox on Aug. 8.
Cleveland manager Terry Francona also addressed the carelessness of Plesac and Clevinger, though his remarks were much less pointed.
