Former Colorado Rockies manager Clint Hurdle is back on the team's bench after it fired hitting coach Hensley Meulens on Thursday. Hurdle will take over as hitting coach through the end of the season after the Rockies carried a .220 batting average and .629 OPS into Thursday's off day.
The Rule 5 draft, held annually at the winter meetings in December, never garners much fanfare, but it has been known to yield some noteworthy transactions.
The Yankees thought about hiring Meulens as their own manager after parting ways with Joe Girardi in October 2017. They granted him an interview, and he was in the mix along with the like likes of then-bench coach Rob Thomson, but as we know, the job went to Aaron Boone.
America's favorite pastime has more memorable performances than any sport. As such, figuring out which pitchers had the best seasons ever is no easy task.
