Donte DiVincenzo’s Warriors Future Gets Major Update
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Donte DiVincenzo is expected to decline his 2023-24 player option with the Golden State Warriors and enter free agency this summer, according to NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

DiVincenzo will likely be too expensive for the Warriors to re-sign once he hits unrestricted free agency.

“Within Golden State and among rival NBA executives, there’s a belief Donte DiVincenzo will decline his $4.7 million player option and will likely be too expensive for the Warriors to re-sign once he hits unrestricted free agency,” Scotto wrote. “As noted by colleague Yossi Gozlan in his HoopsHype offseason preview for the Warriors, Golden State would be able to re-sign DiVincenzo for up to four years, $23.2 million if he declines his player option, which would give him only a $5.4 million starting salary.

“One NBA executive told HoopsHype he believes DiVincenzo is worth the non-taxpayer mid-level exception after the former Villanova guard averaged career-highs in three-point percentage (.397), assists (3.5), steals (1.3), and games played (72).”

The 26-year-old DiVincenzo averaged 9.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists for the Warriors this past season in 72 games. The NBA champion shot 43.5% from the field, 39.7% from beyond the arc and 81.7% from the free-throw line.

DiVincenzo made 150 3-pointers for the Warriors in 2022-23. He has career averages of 9.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists with the Milwaukee Bucks, Sacramento Kings and Warriors.

One NBA general manager believes the Los Angeles Lakers could look to steal DiVincenzo from the Warriors. Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports spoke to a GM who likes DiVincenzo’s potential fit with the Lakers.

“They could make a push for Donte DiVincenzo from the Warriors, depending on what they do with him,” the GM told Deveney. “He might command more than the tax MLE on the market, but he would be the right kind of guy, a shooter and ball-handler off the bench.”
