Cardinals release WR DeAndre Hopkins after three seasons

Hopkins played three years in Arizona, beginning in 2020. However, after a disappointing 2022-2023 season, the 30-year-old has expressed his displeasure with the Cardinals over the past couple of months.

Since taking notice of this displeasure, the Cardinals turned their heads towards the trade market by asking for a “premium day 2 pick and more”.

Unfortunately for GM Monti Ossenfort and owner Michael Bidwill, they quickly realized that this would not be the case, as teams were not willing to give away much value for Hopkins.

As a result of releasing Hopkins instead of trading, the Cardinals will take a massive $22.6 million dead cap hit.

With a series of injuries over the past couple of seasons, there is no question that Hopkins is towards the final couple of seasons of his career. The future Hall of Famer will now focus on finding a championship caliber team to end his career with.

During his time in Arizona, Hopkins averaged nearly 900 yards per season and brought in 17 touchdowns.
