The Detroit Lions are coming off their most memorable season in over three decades. Back then, one of the only bright spots of that franchise was legendary RB Barry Sanders. Now, reports are coming out that this elite running back and elite person suffered a major health scare.
What happened to Barry Sanders? Will he be ok? Read below to find out.
Recently, Barry Sanders addressed a health scare he had over the weekend on his social media pages. It is important to note that he is just 55 years old. Sanders made the following statement:
“To all of my supporters,
Over Father’s Day weekend, I experienced a health scare related to my heart. It was unexpected and served as a reminder of the importance of staying vigilant about our well-being, even when we are feeling fine.
I am grateful for the amazing doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals for providing me with needed care. My family and I are thankful for your support and prayers during this time.
Per my doctors’ recommendation, I am taking this opportunity to prioritize my health and well-being. I appreciate your understanding and continued support.”

If Barry Sanders had played in the NFL longer, he would have likely been the all-time leading rusher. Instead, he only played for 10 seasons. Yet, he still managed to have 15,269 rushing yards and 99 rushing touchdowns.
He also rushed for over 2,000 yards (2,053) in 1997. Despite failing to make the Super Bowl, these accomplishments were more than enough to lock down a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame for Barry Sanders.
Once Detroit Lions fans found out this startling and frightening news, they wasted no time offering their support and prayers. Here were some of the most notable comments from these fans:
“I’m glad you’re okay, please rest up and get better Barry!!”
“Get better soon champ”
