Given that wide receivers have been known to abandon their respective teams, this is quite the rumor that has been circulating in the world of the NFL. Over the course of the years, we have seen athletes push their way off of teams for a variety of reasons, including disagreements over their contracts, the performance of their teams, their coaches, or just a desire for a change of environment. Some of the players that asked to be traded or signed with other clubs were the ones who we least anticipated to walk away from a successful scenario. In Johnson’s view, things are quite a little different.

Bleacher Report created a list of potential “firework” trade packages for specific players and teams. Bleacher Report had Diontae Johnson going to the Dallas Cowboys. In return, the Steelers would receive a second-round pick.

Possible Trade for Johnson?

You may be wondering why this headline is gaining momentum. So far, Pittsburgh has not made any contract offers to Johnson. Amari Cooper was dealt to the Browns, while Cedrick Wilson Jr. signed with the Dolphins. Michael Gallup is back in the lineup after recovering from a ruptured ACL. The Cowboys agreed to terms with former Steeler James Washington on a one-year contract. According to Bleacher, the Cowboys are in “win-now mode,” but the Steelers are in “rebuild mode.”

Terry Mclaurin gets his contract extension

Washington Commanders’ third-round draft pick Terry Mclaurin has recently signed a three-year, $71 million contract extension with the team. This season, Johnson finished ahead of Mclaurin in every wide receiver statistical category. There are reports that Johnson likely won’t get $20 million a year, or a contract similar/better than Mclaurin’s either. As far as Johnson knows, he’s the best player in the league.
