Former Leeds United and West Brom midfielder, Carlton Palmer says common sense should prevail over the future of Harry Winks.
The midfielder is firmly out of the first-team picture at Tottenham and has fallen way behind the likes of Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
With both players doing well and improving, Palmer believes it’s a tough situation because Spurs need cover in their squad and Winks needs to play, but he believes common sense will ultimately win.
He said to This is Futbol: “Well it’s difficult isn’t it for the player? I mean the player wants to play, so he wants to get out on loan but the clubs down to bare bones. So you know if they let him go then they’re short of a player so obviously the club comes first from their point of view but obviously that’s disappointing for Harry because he’s not getting game time.
“At some point common sense will have to prevail because if he’s not playing, he’s no good to Tottenham anyhow sitting on the bench and not playing. So I think at some point whether they get one or two more players in in January, then common sense will prevail. [Maybe] Tottenham are taking the stance that if he wants to go and he wants to get game time then he goes full time, so in the January transfer window he goes and they get money for him.”

Winks is currently in an unfortunate situation, but that is how a player’s career can change in football.
The Englishman is too good to be on the bench and deserves to move to a club where he can play regularly.
But Spurs will lose an experienced midfield cover if they allow him to leave and finding a quality replacement would be hard.
One way he can get more game time is if Nuno Espirito Santo agrees to rotate his squad.
However, given how inconsistent we have been this season, the smartest thing to do would be to find a winning starting XI and stick to it.
If Winks eventually asks to leave, fans would understand because most of us agree he is too good to be sidelined.
