UFC President Dana White announced this afternoon during a media call that Dan Henderson has suffered a partial MCL tear and has been forced out of his scheduled fight with Jon Jones at UFC 151. The injury set off a series of events that led to the cancellation of UFC 151 scheduled for September 1st in Las Vegas. Dana stated that this is the first time in 11 years that an entire event has been cancelled.
According to Dana, Chael Sonnen had agreed to face Jones at UFC 151 on just 8 days notice. However, Jones and his camp refused to accept the fight. Dana said he has never had a guy refused to fight, especially someone like Jones who is considered a top 3 pound-for-pound fighter.
Jones will now fight Lyoto Machida who was the next in line for a title shot. That fight will take place on what was originally UFC 152 in Toronto on September 22nd. That event will now become UFC 151.
