Dak Prescott opens up about ‘humbling’ loss to Cardinals

After looking absolutely dominant through the first 2 weeks of the season and outscoring opponents 70-10, the Dallas Cowboys suffered a tough loss on Sunday falling to the Arizona Cardinals 28-16 on Sunday.

Some were regarding Dallas as the best team in the league given their hot start, but conversely, the Arizona Cardinals were regarded by many as the worst team in the league heading into the year. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott spoke following the loss and opened up about the expectations for his team.

“Y’all put us on top of the world,” said Prescott. “We knew who we are. In that same sense, I’m sure the media got what it wanted. For us, there hadn’t been but one undefeated team. It sucks, it’s humbling, but to say it’s a wake-up call, we knew we had a lot of adversity and we just didn’t get it done. It just goes back to myself, the offense, in the red zone. We get better there, we win this game. But we’ve got to fix that area, period.”

Prescott finished the game with 249 yards, a touchdown and an interception, sacked twice under the day and under pressure pretty frequently as the team was missing two of their starting offensive lineman.

Dallas dominated the game in several areas, running 22 more offensive plays and winning the time of possession handily by nine minutes. They threw for 53 more yards than the Cowboys as well, but Dallas’ 13 penalties and Arizona’s ability to dominate on the ground and make timely plays allowed them to pull off the win as 11-point underdogs.

“We’re staying in the moment. That’s who we are. That’s who this team is,” said Prescott. “This was a humbling loss in that sense. Obviously, we’ve had a lot of adversity just throughout the week. It wasn’t easy. Nobody’s making excuses. I thought we had a great opportunity to come in and, even with the adversity, get a win. Obviously, every week you’ve got to reset and refocus, and honestly, it’s a little bit easier after a loss. So, there’s not going to be any worries about that.”

There’s no question that playing for the Cowboys comes with a different level of high expectations, ones that Prescott is ready to own and live up to as he’s in the midst of his eighth season with the franchise.

Dallas will look to bounce back next Sunday, as they host the New England Patriots at 4:25 p.m. ET.
