With the Hawks coming two games short of the NBA Finals and the Braves skidding through the trade deadline, Atlanta sports haven’t been too kind to fans. Still, football is here, and I, for one, can’t wait. Rookies and veterans will report to training camp next week July 27th at the team’s facilities in Flowery Branch, Georgia.

Falcons fans will have an opportunity to see the team in person for the first time on July 31st as part of the NFL’s Back Together Saturday. After training camp, the Falcons and Dolphins will play in Miami in the second week of the preseason on August 21st, but it has now been confirmed that the two teams will hold joint practices on the 18th and 19th leading up to their preseason game. This will be a great test for Atlanta as Miami is an extremely talented football team.

The Falcons will have external competition with the Dolphins, but all eyes will be on the internal competition at multiple positions. The boundary cornerback position opposite A.J. Terrell is up for the takings. Dante Fowler Jr. needs a running mate on the opposite side of the defensive front. The offensive line has two reliable players in Jake Matthews and Chris Lindstrom, but Kaleb McGary has improved in each of his two seasons at right tackle, so I’m eager to see how much more he’s developed.

The center and left guard positions will be two battles that will pique the interest of everyone, including me. Matt Hennessy and Drew Dalman will battle it out at center, while Jalen Mayfield, Josh Andrews, and Matt Gono will battle it out at left guard. Get ready, folks; football is almost back!
