Italy World Cup winner Dino Zoff is happy seeing Inter Milan defender Francesco Acerbi avoid suspension.

Claims of Acerbi racially abusing Napoli defender Juan Jesus was thrown out by the sporting judiciary in Italy yesterday.

Zoff told Il Tempo: "I find the ruling very favorable.

"I believe that matters on the pitch should end on the pitch. And then there has already been a clarification between the two players, so it almost seemed to me everything that has happened in recent days is useless."

Walter Sabatini, who bought Juan Jesus from Inter during his time at Roma, is of the same opinion: "From the beginning it was understood that there would be no basis for a disqualification. It is not right to condemn someone in the absence of certain evidence, I rejoice at his acquittal."

A historic voice of Italian football like Bruno Pizzul laments the entire episode: "I was almost sure that he would have been disqualified, after all there are precedents in which suspicion was enough. Instead the Inter player got off cheaply and I'm thrilled, moreover Acerbi's acquittal puts Juan Jesus in a bad light: now he is seen as a fantasist who made it all up, I'm sorry and it doesn't seem right to me."
