Indiana University-connected athletes – past and present – added to the Hoosiers’ rich Olympic Games legacy in the 2024 Games. Four athletes earned medals – including gold medals for Lilly King and Matt King.
From the time she made her Olympic debut in 2016 to her final Olympic Games appearance in 2024, Indiana alumna Lilly King has been a consistent presence on the medal stand in swimming.
In her final Olympic race, Lilly King struck gold. King swam the breaststroke leg of the 4×100-meter medley relay on Sunday in Paris, and she helped the United States win the gold medal and set a new world record in the event, at 3:49.63.
As Lilly King competes in her third and final Olympic Games, she has a chance to make history. King has no doubts that this will be her last Games, saying in June that she feels content with what she’s accomplished in swimming.
Lilly King won't soon forget her night at the U.S. Olympic Trials. King became the first American swimmer to qualify for both the 100- and 200-meter breaststrokes in three successive Olympics on Thursday in Indianapolis.
Lilly King captured Olympic qualification in a second event Thursday night at U.S. Olympic Team Trials at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. But that was only the beginning of a memorable night for the legendary former IU swimmer.
Five-time Olympic medalist Lilly King pulled off a hat trick in her home state. King, a native of Evansville, Ind. and former IU swimmer, finished first in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke final at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
