For everyone that is asking about my basketball future I will be attend Vet Camp and Starting this season with the Celtics! — Deshawn Sims (@Peedi3416) August 26, 2013 Former Michigan standout DeShawn Sims should be a familiar name to Celtics fans. He played on the Celtics' summer league team after going undrafted three years ago. He was cut in training camp but a lot of Celtics fans really liked him. He was named NBA Development League Rookie of the Year that season, averaging 20.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 steals in 34 minutes per game. He played in Greece, Korea and Puerto Rico after his first year in the D-League. He then returned to the Red Claws for the 2011-12 season and averaged 7.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in just 18 minutes per game. He played in Lebanon for the Hekmeh BC club last season. What I loved about him in Summer League that year and as I watched him play on the Red Claws was that he's not afraid of banging inside. He's a bit undersized at 6'8, but then again, Danny seems to love the aggressive undersized guys. I mean, even Bill Russell and Dave Cowens were a bit undersized for their position. It's what they do with that size that counts. I'd much rather have an aggressive Sims at 6'8" than a passive Patrick O'Bryant at 7'. He's also athletic and has a pretty decent range on his shot. He may seem to be a long shot to make the team, but I'd much rather have him on the bench than Jordan Crawford. Maybe Danny will too. Or possibly Danny can make a 2 for 1 trade before training camp starts. Either way, Sims is an intriguing prospect and deserves a chance. [Discuss on CG Forums!]
