Seahawks troll themselves with tweet after Russell Wilson trade
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Seahawks traded away arguably the greatest player in their franchise’s history on Tuesday, and they are trying to maintain a good sense of humor about it.

Russell Wilson has been traded to the Denver Broncos for a huge package of draft picks and players. Not long after the news broke, the Broncos tweeted a not-so-subtle confirmation with a “Castaway” reference.

The Seahawks ran with it. They responded by tweeting the clip from “Castaway” where Tom Hanks loses his beloved volleyball friend, which is named “Wilson.”

That was pretty funny, but we’re not sure Seahawks fans will appreciate it. Their team just gave up a 33-year-old star quarterback, though Wilson likely forced Seattle’s hand.

Broncos fans, on the other hand, will gladly laugh at the “Castaway” jokes. One of their star players perfectly summed up the roller coaster of emotions the team experienced with all of the huge quarterback news on Tuesday.
