BOSTON — While Pat Riley and Danny Ainge exchanged verbal blows through the media, Celtics coach Doc Rivers found himself uncomfortably in the middle of a war of words between his boss and the guy in charge of his top rival.
After Ainge, the Celtics’ president of basketball operations, called LeBron James‘ complaints about rough play “embarrassing” on a radio interview this week and Riley, the Miami Heat president, dropped an expletive in response, Rivers was asked prior to his team’s game against the Hawks on Friday what he thought of the ongoing exchange.
“I think it’s funny,” Rivers said. “I think it’s very interesting. … I can relate. I think it’s cool. They should duke it out.”
Rivers, who had his own battles with Ainge in their playing days, tip-toed around the issue. He downplayed the impact Ainge and Riley’s back-and-forth would have on a possible playoff matchup between the Celtics and Heat, who have met up in the last three postseasons. Rivers said he does not foresee a

Danny Ainge recently said that LeBron needs to stop doing so much complaining, and that apparently did not sit well with Pat Riley, to say the least.
Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
“Danny Ainge needs to shut the f— up and manage his own team,” Riley said in a statement issued by the team. “He was the biggest whiner going when he was playing and I know that because I coached against...
You expect bloggers, fans and sports radio hosts to react to LeBron James’ whining about officiating. But an NBA general manager?
Yesterday on WEEI, Danny Ainge joined the fray:
“I think the referees got the calls right. I don’t think it was a hard foul,” Ainge said of the mixups involving James and Heinrich, as well as another one involving James and Taj Gibson. “I think...
Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge: "I think that it’s almost embarrassing that LeBron would complain about officiating."
In a recent interview on WEEI radio, Celtics GM, Danny Ainge, called LeBron James “almost embarrassing” for complaining about foul calls after Chicago snapped Miami’s 27-game winning streak. LeBron James responded at Friday’s shootaround in New Orleans, saying “Nothing that comes out of Boston surprises me,” but Miami wasn’t done firing back. Heat president Pat Riley...
After the Chicago Bulls ended the Miami Heat’s 27-game winning streak Wednesday night, LeBron James blasted the Bulls’ physical play, mostly in regards to hard fouls delivered by Kirk Hinrich and Taj Gibson:
First of all, Kirk Hinrich in the first quarter basically grabbed me with two hands and brought me to the ground. The last one, Taj Gibson was able to collar me around my...
The Miami Heat's Pat Riley literally told Boston's Danny Ainge to 'Shut the f@#$ up' in a written statement to the press. Epic.
I have always said that the Miami Heat are better when they embrace their inner nWo. Dwyane Wade is not afraid to be a bad guy and LeBron James has shown a little bit of his heel side coming out. So when Danny Ainge, GM of the rival Boston Celtics, decided to take a shot at LeBron for complaining about officials.
Apparently, that comment rubbed Heat President Pat Riley wrong way...
Pat Riley is not happy.
On Thursday, Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge let his feelings be known about LeBron James and his complaints about officiating. After James complained that the Chicago Bulls got away with flagrant fouls that weren’t called during their 101-97 victory over Miami, Ainge called James’ protests “embarrassing.”
“I think the referees...
Riley comes to LeBron's defense
Pat Riley issued possibly the statement of the year when he told Danny Ainge to shut the f— up and mind his own business.
Ainge upset Riley by saying Thursday on WEEI’s “Salk & Holley” show that it was embarrassing for LeBron James to complain about calls like he did after the Miami Heat lost to the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday.
“I think the referees got the calls right...
BOSTON – Heat President Pat Riley had a sharp response for Celtics Director of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge Friday evening after Ainge mocked LeBron James' complaints about officiating. Riley told media in Miami, "[Ainge] needs to shut the **** up and manage his own team. He was the biggest whiner going when he was playing. I know that because I coached against him...
Danny Ainge joined WEEI on Thursday. In their weekly discussion, Ainge was asked about Kevin Garnett's health. "It's much better today than it was yesterday and I think he just could use some rest. On top of that, KG has just little nicks, bumps and bruises that could use some healing time. He's got a sore calf muscle as well. It's just good for him to take some...
Somehow, I had never seen this before until today. Fast forward to 2:27 for a dope sax solo or fast forward to 3:02 for closeup of the team including Doc Rivers' dancing at 3:12. Love the Jon Koncak, Scott Hastings and Tree Rollins sightings. Three 7 footers for one team means you KNOW it's gotta be the 80s or 90s.
Not bad for a team that never made it past the second...
(Things Danny Ainge would say...) Bulls big man Carlos Boozer is punching everything that moves these days, including referee Dan Crawford. Though this time it was on a celebratory fist pump. Bonus?...
