Unthinkable as it may seem given his recent stellar play, Paul Pierce will one day play his final game in a Celtics uniform. That could be as soon as this summer, in fact. The Celtics have a $5 million buyout in Pierce’s contract, which becomes guaranteed for more than $15 million if he is still on the roster come July. The team therefore has to decide whether the $10 million savings is worth cutting ties with one of the most decorated players in franchise history. If so, Pierce says he will not hold it against the organization. “I’ve had a great run here,” Pierce told ESPN.com’s Jackie MacMullan. “I wouldn’t give any negative backlash to what they feel they need to do to help their franchise. I still feel I have a couple of good years to play. If it’s for someone [other team], then so be it.” Pierce, 35, has rounded out his game since season-ending injuries to Rajon Rondo and Jared Sullinger created weaknesses for the Celtics in the playmaking and rebounding departments. He is aver...

  • I could see not paying him $15M next year, but the Celtics would be idiots to not resign him for less money.

Paul Pierce might rest tonight

Hearing Paul pierce may have tonight off for rest — greg dickerson (@gdickerson_csn) March 12, 2013 Got to hand it to Doc… he’s taking advantage of the schedule to rest guys at times that minimize the impact on the team. If Pierce sits, Jeff Green will start.  I’m also going to bet this means KG sits tomorrow night.  He’s due for another day off.

Paul Pierce goes on the record, says he wants to see the Heat in the playoffs

The Miami Heat are the best team in basketball. Whether you love them (doubtful if you're reading this), hate them (quite likely if you're reading this), respect them, or not - they have proven it. They are the defending champs, have the best winning percentage in basketball, and are in the midst of an 18 game winning streak; the longest such streak in the NBA this season...

Paul Pierce to get night off vs. Bobcats?

From CSNNE's Greg Dickerson: Hearing Paul pierce may have tonight off for rest — greg dickerson (@gdickerson_csn) March 12, 2013 If Dickerson is right, this seems like a well timed and wise decision by Doc.  The last time he rested one of his stars the KG-less C's played one of their better offensive games of the season, blowing out the Suns 113-88 in Phoenix in the...

Wojnarowski: Paul Pierce for Josh Smith was “perhaps closest Pierce had come to parting with Celtics”

Paul Pierce was very nearly traded for Josh Smith at the deadline. We knew that Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett were both in danger of being traded at the deadline this season, but according to Yahoo!’s Adrian Wojnarowski, who is usually right about such things, the deal may have been as close as Pierce has come to leaving the Celtics in his career. From the Yahoo! article:Before the...

You Can Play Paul Pierce In H.O.R.S.E.

Official Release: The Massachusetts State Lottery and the Boston Celtics have teamed up on a contest that will provide six lucky fans with the once-in-a-lifetime experience of playing Celtics Captain Paul Pierce in a game of “H-O-R-S-E”. Paul Pierce Still Top Clutch Performer for Celtics, With Ball in Hands or Without

There was no brilliantly devised play call this time. If the Celtics’ last gut-check victory was an example of Paul Pierce‘s abilities as a $17 million decoy, their latest was a reminder in exactly why Doc Rivers usually puts the ball in this guy’s hands in the clutch. The most polarizing topic among Celtics fans might not be whether the team is better without Rajon Rondo or...

Doc rips team over shot selection

The Boston Celtics took care of business on the defensive end Sunday in a 91-79 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, but weren't successful on the offensive end. The Celtics held the Thunder to 44.1 percent shooting and didn't let

Comments from the Other Side - Hawks 3/8

It always amazes me when there is a team like the Hawks that is playing well and yet their fans aren't really behind them.    Unlike the Raptors, who aren't playing so well, yet have over a hundred pages on  3 or 4 different boards,  it's hard to find an active game thread for the Hawks.  I mean, even the Bobcats have a more loyal following than the Hawks.  I say...

Your Morning Dump… Where it’s time for Brandon Bass to step up

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. In a locker room cloaked in gloom from a fresh defeat, Paul Pierce perked up when the subject turned to Brandon Bass. The Celtics captain praised the muscular forward’s performance against Oklahoma City Sunday...

5 Things Celtics must do to win tonight - Bobcats 3/12

Tonight, the Celtics will finally get to play an easier opponent when they visit the Bobcats. Charlotte currently sits at an NBA-worst 13-50. The C's will probably win this game, but you can't guarantee it. They still have to play hard. Here are tonight's five things: 5. GET GREEN HOT: Before I start ripping on all these guys for missing shots, I have to say that Sunday...

Back Alley Brawl

There is no love lost between the Atlanta Hawks and Boston Celtics.  Ever since the teams clashed through seven hard-fought games in the first round of the 2008 Playoffs, it seems, both teams have had each others' number.  There have been matchups, dustups and confrontations - with notable incidents involving Paul Pierce and Al Horford, Jeff Teague and Ray Allen (to which KG...
